Annual General Meeting Round-up
Our Annual General Meeting took place on Thursday 23rd May 2019.

We would like to say a huge ‘Thank you’ to Stewart Gilray and Peter Heald who both stepped down as Directors at the meeting after 5 years of working with the BID. We very much appreciate the many voluntary hours they have given to the BID and wish them and their businesses success for the future.
James Dale, Partner at Newstead & Walker Solicitors, kindly agreed to be our Guest Speaker for the evening. He gave a short talk on the subject of Rent & Lease Agreements & Reviews – Know Your Rights. Here is James’s Top 10 Checklist for tenants – what you should do BEFORE signing a Rent or Lease Agreement:
TOP 10 TENANT’S TIPS
- Get advice BEFORE you agree heads of terms
- Rent is just the start
- Repair – check what you have to do or have to pay towards. What is FRI?
- Stay “inside the Act”
- Check your rent reviews
- Make break clauses unconditional
- Don’t forget extras – VAT/SDLT/Land Registration
- Note your key dates
- Think about your lease renewal at least a year before Lease ends
- Instruct a solicitor!

FREE Summer Kids Entertainment
Our Kids Entertainment in the Market Place is back!
We are delighted to announce that we have teamed up with ‘Breeze Leeds’ to bring you a whole host of exciting FREE activities for children from age 2 – 13 years old throughout the Summer school holidays.
The events will take place:
EVERY WEDNESDAY
OTLEY MARKET PLACE
11AM – 3PM
Entertainment varies each week and will include a giant inflatable, face painting, street entertainment, arts & crafts & much more!
We will be circulating leaflets around local schools, children’s centres etc and full details can be found on our Facebook Events Page.
FREE Training for Businesses
As part of our 2019/24 Business Plan we have committed to providing more business training for our Otley BID Levy Paying businesses.

Emergency First Aid at Work
Practical training giving employers & staff the skills, knowledge & expertise you need to offer effective first aid treatment in case of an emergency in the workplace. A certificate in Emergency First Aid at Work is issued on successful completion of this course. The certificate is valid for 3 years and is approved by the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB). The course and certificate has been developed to meet the requirements set by the HSE and Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

- Time: 5.00pm – 8.00pm

- Duration: 6 hours (Day 1 = 3 hours / Day 2 = 3 hours)

Lighting Up Otley At Christmas
We have teamed up with Otley Town Council to part-fund and provide the following changes / additions to the Christmas lights in and around Otley for 2019:
- Reinstate the string of lights which used to run down Tittybottle Park
- All year round decorative lighting to the outside of the Buttercross. This will potentially be on a timer 8pm to midnight so as not to cause too much light pollution
- All year round lighting of the ex-HSBC triangle within the trees, again on a timer so as not to cause too much light pollution.
