Annual General Meeting Round-up

Our Annual General Meeting took place on Thursday 23rd May 2019.

The 2018/19 Financial Accounts can be found on our website. If you do have any questions please email

We would like to say a huge ‘Thank you’ to Stewart Gilray and Peter Heald who both stepped down as Directors at the meeting after 5 years of working with the BID. We very much appreciate the many voluntary hours they have given to the BID and wish them and their businesses success for the future.

James Dale, Partner at Newstead & Walker Solicitors, kindly agreed to be our Guest Speaker for the evening. He gave a short talk on the subject of Rent & Lease Agreements & Reviews – Know Your Rights. Here is James’s Top 10 Checklist for tenants – what you should do BEFORE signing a Rent or Lease Agreement:

  1. Get advice BEFORE you agree heads of terms
  2. Rent is just the start
  3. Repair – check what you have to do or have to pay towards. What is FRI?
  4. Stay “inside the Act”
  5. Check your rent reviews
  6. Make break clauses unconditional
  7. Don’t forget extras – VAT/SDLT/Land Registration
  8. Note your key dates
  9. Think about your lease renewal at least a year before Lease ends
  10. Instruct a solicitor!

Newstead & Walker have 3 fully qualified solicitors who specialise in commercial property work. Between them they have nearly 60 years of experience acting for landlords and tenants. Although this advice does not come free of charge it may well save you many hours of heartache in the long run. Please give the team below a call should you need advice :

Lighting Up Otley At Christmas

We have teamed up with Otley Town Council to part-fund and provide the following changes / additions to the Christmas lights in and around Otley for 2019:

  • Reinstate the string of lights which used to run down Tittybottle Park
  • All year round decorative lighting to the outside of the Buttercross. This will potentially be on a timer 8pm to midnight so as not to cause too much light pollution
  • All year round lighting of the ex-HSBC triangle within the trees, again on a timer so as not to cause too much light pollution.
